Fully vaccinated adults in Platte County
According to data that became available last Tuesday, Aug. 17, 48.52% of adults (age 18 and above) in Platte County are fully vaccinated against COVID-19.
Platte County’s vaccination rates come from information supplied by the Platte County Health Department.
That Platte County rate of 48.52% is notably higher than the statewide percentage of 44%.
The statewide percentage for Missouri was reported by USA Today on Tuesday of this week using information supplied by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
While the Platte County percentage is higher than the statewide number, it is below the national vaccination rate. The CDC on Tuesday said about 51.5% of the United States population is fully vaccinated.
The health department’s numbers show 55.73% of Platte County adults have received at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine.
As for young people, according to data supplied by the health department 38.55% of Platte County youth ages 12-17 are fully vaccinated, while 51.79% have received at least one dose.
On Monday, the US Food and Drug Administration (USDA) granted full approval to the Pfizer/BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine for people 16 and over, a move that some national health leaders are hoping will convince a significant number of hesitant Americans to get vaccinated.
COVID-19 vaccines in the U.S. were initially rolled out under the USDA’s emergency use authorization, which allows the agency to speed the availability of medical products during public health emergencies.
Under that process, the FDA waived some of its normal data requirements and procedures to make the COVID-19 vaccines available months earlier than would have been possible under normal circumstances.
“Case rates are still in the red zone, although they appear to have peaked in early August. Percent positivity rates have also dropped some but remain in the CDC red zone,” Aaron Smullin, public information officer for the Platte County Health Department, told The Landmark this week.
“We’ve had one additional COVID-19 death reported in the month of August, putting our total deaths at 54,” Smullin said.
“Vaccination rates continue to increase slightly from week to week,” he added.
VACCINES AVAILABLE LOCALLY
The Platte County Health Department offers all COVID-19 vaccines (Pfizer, Moderna, Johnson & Johnson) at its Parkville location. First and second doses are available each day, Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. An appointment is needed. To schedule an appointment, call the Parkville office at 816-587-5998.
The health department’s Parkville location is at 1201 East Street, Parkville, Mo. 64152.
The COVID vaccines are available at the Platte County Health Department in Platte City every other Friday from 1 to 4 p.m. and no appointment is required. The next one will be Friday Sept. 3. The clinic takes place in the lower level at the back of the building, which is located at 212 Marshall Road in Platte City.
Both the Parkville and Platte City locations are also offering the third dose of vaccines for those who are immunocompromised. If coming for a second or third dose, bring your COVID vaccination card.
Smullin said in the past month the Platte County Health Department has administered 371 COVID-19 vaccinations.
