The Platte City Parks and Recreation Board has recommended that the city purchase land in the flood plain at the west end of Main Street. Alderman George Short, a member of the park board, said the price would be $30,000 or about $850 per acre. Short also said that preliminary drawings show that four ball fields and four soccer fields could be built in that space.
The Scoreboard team of Platte City placed third in the state slow-pitch softball tournament on Aug. 3 and 4 at Excelsior springs. They won four straight games Saturday before losing to Tracy of Springfield on Sunday. Dirks of Kansas City came up through the loser’s bracket to give Scoreboard its second loss and the third place finish.
Area students recently were award Spelman scholarships. They are Kristy Kelly of Kearney, Christy Swords of North Platte R-1, Corey Snyder of Gower, Matt Siebert of Smithville, Amanda Slusher of Plattsburg, and Brooke French of Smithville.
Platte County valuation now stands at $650,904,759 following Board of Equalization hearings and add-ons, an increase of $38 million over last year. Doris Gerner, county clerk, reported this week. Valuation has increased steadily over the past six years. Gerner said a decrease in real property was offset by an increase in personal property.
