With 17 precincts still to report from Tuesday’s primary election, Platte County Auditor Sandra Thomas is the leader in the clubhouse by only 1,800 votes in the race for the Republican nomination for Missouri state auditor. The secretary of state’s office reported Wednesday morning at Landmark press time that with 3,675 of 3,692 precincts reporting, Thomas has 86,611 votes or 29.1% of the vote, with a slight lead over Jack Jackson, who has 84,812 votes, or 28.5%. Thomas has declared herself the winner, doing so in a message emailed to The Landmark about 11 a.m. Wednesday. “With over 99% of the precincts reporting, Sandra Thomas, CPA, has a significant enough lead,” the message from her campaign staff said.


Football is back. Chip Sherman, head football coach at Platte County High School, conducted a morning practice on Tuesday in preparation for the fall football season. Football practice was on the upper practice fields. It was the second day of full pads practice. That same day about 120 members of the Platte County High School marching band turned out for band practice. The band actually has 130 members but about 10 band members were involved at fall sports practices.


In a race for a position on the Platte County Republican Central Committee, Alexandra Kuebler defeated Dagmar Wood 226 to 215 for the subcommitteewoman position in district 32-5.
