45 Years Ago–July 30, 1976

Mr. and Mrs. James Hollar of Camden Point announce the engagement of their daughter, Connie, to Dennis Ashton, son of Mr. and Mrs. Virgil Ashton of Kansas City. The wedding is planned for 5 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 12 in a lawn ceremony west of Camden Point Baptist Church.


Three Platte Countians attended the 15th Annual Freedom Forum June 27-July 1 at the Missouri Military Academy in Mexico. The four day forum is a seminar on Americanism and patriotism. Roger Dusing, of Kansas City, Robyn Rusk, of Kansas City, and Robbie Berry from Weston all attended the event.


Married in a candlelight ceremony on June 26, 1976 at the First Baptist Church in Platte City were Paula Jayne Amos of Platte City and Michael David Roberts of Weston. Parents of the couple are Mr. and Mrs. Bill Amos and Mrs. Sylvia Miller of Platte City, and Mr. and Mrs. Mitchell Roberts of Weston.


Miss Linda Noland of Weatherby Lake was crowned 1976 queen of the Platte County Fair during the opening ceremonies on Wednesday night.


Platte City Fire Chief Mickey Pope is improving from burns to his face, hands and arms, received last Saturday while filling a propane tank on a mobile home at Ferrellgas, Inc., where he is employed. The fire destroyed the mobile home. Five persons escaped the mobile home uninjured.
