30 Years Ago–July 26, 1991

A check for $10,000 was presented to John Elliott of People for Kids Friday by Platte County Sheriff Tom Thomas. Elliott and his wife, Julie, serve as co-chairmen of People for Kids, an organization that serves youth in the Platte County R-3 School District.


William Roger and Bonnie Jean Wisdom of Kansas City have announced the engagement and approaching marriage of their daughter, Michelle Renae Wisdom, to Christopher Alan Bishop, son of Ralph E. and Donna Marie Bishop of Kansas City.


Courtney Lynn Parrett and Steven Paul Lane were united in marriage April 6, 1991 at the Graham-Tyler Chapel, Parkville, Mo. Parents of the bride are Eloise Glaspie and James Parrett, both of Platte City. The groom’s parents are Mr. and Mrs. Hal Lane of Fredericktown, Mo.


When she was crowned queen of the 1991 event last week, it was the second time that Shelle Buckler had been named a big winner at a Platte County Fair. The 22-year-old Weston resident had won a title of a different sort at the Platte County Fair some 18 years earlier. At the age of four, Shelle Buckler was the winner in a Platte County Missy Bathing Beauty contest at the fair.


On a split vote, the Platte City Board of Aldermen on Monday night voted to pass a resolution that will prohibit any further zoning changes from single family to multi-family. The move is an attempt to bring Platte City closer to the national ratio of multifamily dwellings. Mayor Steve Wegner reports that about 45 percent of the dwelling units in the city are multifamily, much higher than the national average of 20 percent.
