30 Years Ago–June 14, 1991

Finishing touches were being put to the new Platte City tennis court this week. The new court replaces the old tennis court that was between the high school and the Platte City Middle School.


The Humphrey’s Access Bridge, southwest of Platte City, has been closed because of damage and will be repaired. The state of the bridge is typical of many bridges in Platte County and throughout the state of Missouri.


Robert L. Packett, a history teacher and chair of the social studies department at Park Hill High School, was recently awarded the “Most Influential Teacher” award from the University of Missouri-Columbia.


With this week’s issue, The Landmark starts its 127th year of continuous publication. The newspaper, oldest in Platte County, has been publishing without interruption since 1865.


North Platte R-1 Superintendent Mike Newell has accepted the position of superintendent of schools at Bowling Green, Mo.


The annual Zed Martin Founder’s Day celebration in Platte City is only a couple weeks away and already some ice block sitters are “warming up” for the big contest. Platte City Mayor Steve Wegner tried out his ice block sitting technique Friday and swears he’ll be ready to outsit all other contestants.
