The last Methodist worship service will be held in the 108-year-old church building in Platte City on Sunday morning, June 6, 1976 when the First United Methodist Church moves officially to their new building located south of Platte City on N Hwy. The service for the day will begin at 10 a.m. at the old church building where services have been held each Sunday for the past 108 years with a “door locking service” as the front doors will be ceremoniously locked. The congregation will then proceed to the new church building where the cornerstone will be laid and an opening worship service conducted. The Rev. Kenneth Lutgen, Jr., minister, will be assisted by district superintendent Lee F. Soxman, Jr., in this historical service.
Turner’s Market, now located in the Platte Hotel, will be closed after June 5 temporarily for moving. Their opening date will be announced later.
There will be a task force committee meeting of all those interested in adult-adolescent problems June 7, 1 p.m. at the Platte City Middle School. This task force is comprised of participants in a recent Parent-Adolescent Workshop held in Platte City April 15. Discussion will center on needs and concerns of both adults and teenagers in dealing with community problems. Teens, parents, teachers, clergy and other interested persons are invited to attend.
