30 Years Ago–May 31, 1991

A heart attack Tuesday proved fatal for Parkville Mayor Warren “Dutch” Gresham, 66. Elected in 1984, Gresham was serving his fourth term. His wife, Dorothy, said the mayor suffered a heart attack at their home and was taken to Spelman Memorial Hospital where he died.


Jennifer Donnelli is the winner of the 1991 Landmark Award for English. She is the daughter of Dorothy Donnelli of Platte City. Her plans are to attend William Jewell College and then law school. She is the 10th winner of the annual award.


A surprise birthday celebration for Lester Hon was held May 21 with friends and neighbors in attendance.


Melissa Myers put on a strong showing at the state track meet held in Jefferson City on Friday and Saturday. The Platte County Lady Pirate speedster finished fourth in the state in the 100 meter dash and was fifth in the 200 meter dash. The Platte County track teams are coached by Tom Morgan.


The Platte County Commission has appointed Platte City attorney Bob Shaw as Platte County’s first-ever county counselor. Shaw, a partner in the law firm of McGinness & Shaw, has practiced law in Platte City since 1980. He has provided legal services to county officials since 1987. Shaw will continue his private legal practice in addition to his county counselor duties.
