The Farmer’s House celebrated the opening of their new Community Courtyard in downtown Platte City last week. The Farmer’s House is a nonprofit organization with a mission to empower youth and adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities to pursue their best lives.
A grand opening was held at the site last Thursday, May 13.
The courtyard is located at 301 Main Street in what was formerly the Wells Bank drive-through area when Wells Bank operated at the corner of Third and Main.
The Farmer’s House now has headquarters in the former Wells Bank building. Wells Bank donated its former building to The Farmer’s House in late 2018. The building is now home to Community Integration and Employment Service programs benefitting individuals with developmental differences.
A grant from Platte County Parks and Recreation and other donors helped make the new courtyard a reality.
Lush landscaping, picnic tables and benches provide an inviting outdoor space for people to meet, eat lunch or read a book while visiting downtown Platte City.
Plans are underway to add a vibrant mural to the courtyard wall to welcome guests and provide opportunities.
Farmer’s House officials have said they “want to provide natural opportunities for the public and the amazing individuals we serve to meet and interact. Our new courtyard is perfect for bringing people together.
Opportunities to sponsor additional tables and/or benches in the community courtyard are available.
