15 Years Ago–May 11, 2006

They want it gone. Dearborn aldermen Monday night reaffirmed a decision they made a month ago. They are sticking to their guns and want the old Interurban railroad car removed from the city limits by the end of the day Thursday. The railroad car was given to the city back in 1993, with the intention the Dearborn Community Betterment organization would find a way to have the care restored. Nothing has ever been done with the railroad car, which now sits at the city’s sewer plant.

Almost two months into his deployment, State Rep. Jason Brown of Platte County is working with the soldiers that the company he is assigned to will replace in the Baghdad area. Brown, a Republican facing re-election this year while he’ll be away in Iraq, was able to update his staff in Jefferson City about his activities in Iraq this week.

The Platte County R-3 School District Board of Education and the central office staff will honor Ron Harmon, assistant superintendent, at a reception on Tuesday May 23 from 4-6 p.m. at the Forum Room of Platte City Middle School. Harmon is retiring from the district at the conclusion of the current school year. Other R-3 staffers retiring this year include Carolyn Barry, Mary Nefzger, Oleda Cooper, Dannette Palmer, Tim McDowell, Gary Kampmeyer and Tom Theiss.
