Rapidos Mexican Restaurant will celebrate Cinco de Mayo with a day-long celebration on Wednesday, May 5.
The restaurant, located at 1205 Hwy. 92 (Branch Street) in Platte City, has been granted a special event permit from the City of Platte City for its celebration, which will run from 10 a.m. to 11 p.m. that day.
The event will take place on the northwest side of the restaurant, between Rapidos and the neighboring Quality Inn.
Live music is planned outdoors within the special event perimeter established by the permit. Alcoholic beverages may be served and consumed within the perimeter and must be in plastic cups.
Per the guidelines established by the city’s special event permit, the restaurant is responsible for contacting the State of Missouri Liquor Control, Kansas City office, to ensure that all state liquor license permitting is completed for the event. The restaurant is also responsible for ensuring that a city liquor catering permit is obtained for the serving and consuming of alcohol within the perimeter and is in compliance with city and state alcohol regulations.
Per the city’s approval, setup can begin the day before the event and tear down will be completed at the conclusion of the event.

Cinco de Mayo, or the fifth of May, is a holiday that celebrates the date of the Mexican army’s May 5, 1862 victory over France at the Battle of Puebla during the Franco-Mexican War.

The day is also known as Battle of Puebla Day. While it is a relatively minor holiday in Mexico, in the United States Cinco de Mayo has evolved into a commemoration of Mexican culture and heritage.
