Businesses within the City of Kansas City will no longer have COVID-19 capacity limitations under new guidelines announced by the city this week.
Businesses within the jurisdiction of the Platte County Health Department, which covers all of the county except those areas within the City of Kansas City, are waiting for updated guidelines from the health department. The Platte County Health Department Board of Trustees is scheduled to meet at noon on Thursday, April 29 to consider changes to the public health order regarding masking and social distancing.
Kansas City Mayor Quinton Lucas on Monday announced the city is easing some COVID-19 restrictions beginning this Friday at 12:01 a.m.
Under a new order, Lucas said masks will no longer be required outdoors or where social distancing of six feet can be maintained.
The new order says masks will still be required indoors where social distancing cannot be maintained. The new indoor mask rule includes exceptions for indoor gatherings where everyone is vaccinated, and the people involved know everyone is vaccinated. Children under 5 also are excluded.
Lucas said this new order is in effect until May 28. The mayor remarked he hopes this is the last order the city has to announce.
