EDITOR:

During the Great Depression, President Franklin Roosevelt used the promise of federal money and jobs to strong-arm states to go along with his socialist New Deal policies and programs. We are experiencing the same scenario now with COVID.

The local democratic process

Individual states and cities are continuing to go along with the supposed health emergency to remain in the race for federal money. The $1.9T COVID bill was nothing but a massive government payoff. It was very disappointing to see Gov. Mike Parson extend the state of emergency in Missouri through August 2021.

There is no justification for this – the numbers do not support it. But the state won’t be on the receiving end of federal money unless this continues which is why he did it.

Wouldn’t it be great to see the Missouri State Legislature call a special session to overturn this new executive order? They have the authority to do this within the state constitution – but do they have the political guts or will to take such a step?

I think its time for the citizens of Platte County to realize that this COVID situation has long since stopped being anything connected with health. It’s now all about the money.
