Up to $25,000 in federal CARES dollars will be used to hire a volunteer coordinator for the mass vaccination operations of the Platte County Health Department.
Working with the Platte County Emergency Management Organization (EMO), which is an arm of the Platte County Sheriff’s Department, and the health department the coordinator will determine volunteer needs for vaccination operations, said Major Erik Holland of the sheriff’s department, this week.
The firm of Peter C. Sturner & Associates will serve as the volunteer coordinator. The firm will be reporting to the sheriff department’s emergency management organization, Holland said.
Volunteers will assist in the flow in and out of the building, traffic management, security of the vaccine. Holland said security has to be in place 24/7 while the vaccine is present.
The vaccination clinics, beginning this week are held at a distribution warehouse in Riverside in the Horizons Industrial Park, 4400 NW 41st St.. Clinics are set for Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday of this week, and others will be scheduled in the future.
Under the agreement, which was approved by the Platte County Commission on Monday, Sturner & Associates will develop a recruitment plan utilizing resources available through the EMO and the health department. The company will oversee orientation and any initial training requirements for volunteers, maintain accurate records relating to volunteer tasks and duties, collect volunteer information, availability and skills and maintain an up-to-date volunteer database. The firm will also work with EMO and the health department staff to ensure volunteer resource needs and supply needs associated with volunteer duties are met.
