Construction projects are something the Platte County R-3 School District has become accustomed to over the years. Most recently, the district has seen the construction of a new middle school and renovations to the high school and former middle school facilities. Now, district officials are trying to remain on top of their continuing enrollment growth with initial discussions on the construction of two new elementary buildings. Dr. Mark Harpst, superintendent, told board members last week the time has come to begin formulating a plan of action at the district’s elementary level. New schools would be needed in both the southern and northern portion of the district.

Platte City crews are working to replace a storm drainage pipe that runs from the east to the west end of Harrel Ferrel Park, located at the intersection of Fourth St and Hwy. 92, after discovering the line was broken. The city is working in conjunction with some grading improvements and water improvements that are being completed along Hwy. 92 to tie the project together to allow the drainage water to run into a pipe underground.
