Allocation projections listed
In an announcement last week, the Platte County Health Department (PCHD) talked about the COVID-19 vaccination process and its challenges.
“We continue to learn more about vaccine distribution every day. As more information becomes available to us, we will share with you ASAP,” the department said in a public social media posting.
“The biggest challenge for Missouri at this time is that demand is far greater than the supply. There is very limited supply of vaccine and a huge demand,” the health department said.
“All vaccine is handled by Operation Warp Speed (OWS). At the beginning of each week, they send states information of how many of each vaccine they will be allocating to the states for the following week so that the states may place orders on behalf of their populations.
“Currently, Missouri is being allocated approximately 70,000 doses on a weekly basis. The average weekly requested doses for Missouri is over 175,000 doses. Again, this is a supply and demand issue and the state has to decide weekly who will be able to get these doses,” the PCHD says.
It is projected that the allocations will go as follows:
– Large Healthcare Systems – 40,000 doses.
– Federal Qualified Health Centers – 6,000 doses.
– Mass Vaccination Events – 17,550 doses.
-Public Health Departments – 6,000 doses (there are 115 health departments in Missouri)
-All other community providers: 6,000 doses.
