Welcome to the Winter. Its pretty much like COVID summers, just colder with less mowing. Play a game, drink something or get on Facebook and argue politics to pass the time.
Without Facebook, how did previous generations know when they had a crazy uncle or cousin? I had a “friend” post this week that the Oval Office is not a real thing. She said it was all cameras and studios and the government was controlling our thoughts by broadcasting what they wanted and saying it was in the Oval Office. They pointed to the windows in the background of a Trump and now Biden photo as being the “proving point.”
Lot to digest there. Rudy Giuliani has not yet weighed in.
I miss Donald’s mean tweets. They made me nervous at first and then I got used to them and now I miss them. It’s kind of like having that bad luck friend around sometimes and thinking how good you’re doing in life. When I read Donald’s tweets, I kind of figured I was more normal than I thought. Gonna have to get my self-esteem elsewhere going forward.
I’m not a Platte County resident and so I will not complain, but I saw that the Cass County Commission sent a letter to the Chiefs, offering to host a Super Bowl parade, should the Chiefs win the Super Bowl next week. I’d kindly like to remind you that I floated this idea for Platte County a couple of weeks ago. I don’t offer much as a community member. I don’t volunteer, I don’t pick up trash, I don’t run for office and I don’t serve meals to the homeless, but with the help of a few Bud Lights, I crank out a lot of good ideas. Since that is my only contribution to the well-being of the community, it would be nice if the public officials would at least take notice in the future.
Have you people ever been to Cass County? Of course not, why would you? It’s a fine place for a gas station or a Menards or something, but it’s no place to have a Chiefs parade. There is still time. Call your local public officials.
Don’t look now but suburban sprawl has made its way to northern Platte County. In real life, I work in real estate and I have been mesmerized by the suburban migration in the last 12 months. For years, $10K-20K per acre prices were common around Highway 92 extending into Clay County to the east. It was the go-to spot for having a little piece of land and custom homes. It was generally limited to the Smithville, Kearney and Platte County school districts. The lack of listings has changed that of late. Land in northern Platte County has been doing similar of late. Ten-acre plots have been over $150,000 to $200,000. This is not your granddad’s farmland anymore. You ain’t farming corn on $15,000 per acre land; at least not very long. Anyway, North Platte and Weston school district and even DeKalb are seeing wild small acreage sales during this pandemic. Good for some and troublesome for others who might not want to see that much sprawl.
Anyway, if you want your own little Green Acres paradise, it’s going to cost you a little more in COVID times.
