It’s sunny and expected to be 55 degrees today, Wednesday, Jan. 20, 2021. I’m ok with that.
I’m old enough to remember when we had big winter snowstorms.
And I hope I didn’t just jinx us.
I think it’s fair to say the last four years were an interesting experiment with mixed results in the world of American politics. While it was a learning experience, there’s nothing wrong with electing a political outsider as president. But I’d suggest the next time we elect a political newcomer as president, it’s probably best that it be someone with at minimum an understanding of and appreciation for the United States Constitution, democracy and United States history. I think that would be helpful. Also, maybe a dose of empathy wouldn’t hurt.
Anyway, thoughts and prayers to the outgoing president and also to the incoming president. Both are gonna need it.

Has anybody done a fact check on Trump’s farewell address? Could take some time.
America noticed that Trump’s farewell address to the nation on Tuesday was pre-recorded. Seems like a sign that his attorneys, advisors, and handlers didn’t trust him not to go full Trump.
Probably wise.
Waiting to see in what fashion the national Republican party moves forward from here. Does it hold on to the notion that Trump is the leader of the party? He leaves office with the lowest approval rating of his tenure. I’m guessing the riot at the Capitol didn’t help.
To this point, Republicans seem divided on whether Trump represents the future of the party or whether it’s time to move on. It’s going to be fascinating to watch.
Not gonna lie, I’m a little worried the Republican party is turning into The Conspiracy Caucus.
I’m not sure embracing conspiracy theories is a plan for future success but let’s see what happens.
An episode of Landmark Live popped across your computer and/or mobile device screens last Thursday evening. Chris Kamler and I filled 30 minutes with small talk on local and national current events and such. Maybe we should apologize for that. I mean, it didn’t have the drama of a riot at the Capitol but it still felt good to get back in touch with the folks who might only get their taste of The Landmark via the Internet.
A somewhat self-quarantined public must have had an appetite to taste some local entertainment, as last week’s Landmark Live has already topped 5,800 views on our Facebook page and still going strong.
Either that or it was the sex appeal.
Nah, I’m guessing it wasn’t the sex appeal.
We noticed Pat McGonigle, news anchor for Fox 4, was one of the viewers of last week’s episode of Landmark Live. Future goal? Get McGonigle on as a guest. Rumor has it he is a Platte County resident. Working to confirm.
Another future guest? Our buddy and fellow columnist Guy “Dick” Speckman. Another guest soon to reappear? Occasional co-host Brad Carl, who has a personal update we can turn into a recurring storyline.
It’s the Chiefs vs. the Buffalo Bills in the AFC Championship Game this Sunday in Kansas City. I’m old enough to remember when these two teams met in the AFC title game after the 1993 regular season when Joe Montana was quarterbacking the Chiefs. I can still tell you where I was to watch that game, in fact. (The watch party wasn’t that exciting, if it had been you know I would share the details).
You’ll recall the Chiefs looked like they had a shot to win that game until Montana was concussed. You’ll also recall one of my favorite players of that era, running back Kimble Anders, dropped what would have been a sure touchdown pass at a crucial point in the game.
There’s at least one similarity heading into this Chiefs-Bills title-deciding matchup: another head injury. Quarterback Patrick Mahomes is in concussion protocol this week after being injured in the divisional playoff vs. the Browns. But all signs at this point are trending toward Mahomes being ready to start on Sunday. Let’s get this.
