30 Years Ago–January 25, 1991

Candidate for Winter Sports king and queen were named recently at Platte County R-3 High School in Platte City. Queen candidates include Amie Blackburn, Neele McDaniel, Kristina Mitchell, Brenda LeVan, Whitney Reineke and Candice Montague. King candidates are Bryan Essary, Jason Wright, Jaret Sanders, Adam McGinness, Craig Wheat and Clint Rodgers. Saturday night Brenda LeVan was named queen and Clint Rodgers king.


New officers were sworn in at the regular monthly Platte City Chamber of Commerce breakfast at Fannie’s Thursday morning. Officers are Kelly Parkhurst, treasurer; Mary Lou Highlander, secretary; Ida Cox, president; and Ervin Uhrig, vice-president.


Howard Breen was named the Outstanding Platte County Citizen at the annual banquet of the Platte County Business and Professional Association at the Embassy Suites Saturday night. He received the Citizen of the Year Award for his work in improving transportation in Platte County as a member of the Kansas City Area Transportation Board.


Kolter R. Miller, R-3 senior, has been recommended by Sen. Jack Danforth as a finalist in competition for appointment to the united States Merchant Marine Academy. Miller is the son of Linda Fisher and William R. Miller.
