Alma M. Hubble has been named as nursing manager for the Obstetrics Department of Spelman Memorial Hospital in Smithville. She and her family recently relocated to the Platte City area from Springfield.


An expected seven percent decrease in revenue from 1990 has created the necessity for a conservative budget with cautious spending, Presiding Commissioner Carol Tomb indicates in the budget message of the preliminary Platte County budget released this week.

A hiring freeze has been instituted by Maple Woods Community College. “Enrollment has continued to hit record levels but funding from the state hasn’t kept pace with our growth,” said Stephen Brainard, Maple Woods president. Enrollment increased by 11.6 percent for the spring semester, Brainard said, to 4,216 students.
