So you want to run for city council?

It’s never too early to think about spring–or your local government.

Candidate filing is now open for positions on various city boards in Platte County. Deadline for filing is Tuesday, Jan. 19 at 5 p.m. The election will be Tuesday, April 6.

Here are some of the highlights involving some of Platte County’s larger cities:

PARKVILLE

One alderman position from each of the city’s four wards will be up for election in April. The spots that are open are currently held by Philip Wassmer in ward one; Brian Whitley in ward two; Douglas Wylie in ward three; and Greg Plumb in ward four. Filing can be done at Parkville City Hall.

PLATTE CITY

Three aldermen positions are now open for filing at the City of Platte City. The spots are currently held by Vickie Atkins in ward one; Steve Hoeger in ward two; and John Higgins in ward three.

RIVERSIDE

Filing opened last Tuesday, Dec. 15 at the City of Riverside. Three board positions are up, currently held by Al Bowman in ward one; Aaron Thatcher in ward two; and Sal LoPorto in ward three. As in other cities, filing deadline is Jan. 19 at 5 p.m.

WESTON

Tami Weaver, city clerk, reports there are three city positions to be filled at the April election. Filing is now open for mayor, which is a role currently filled by Steve George. Two alderman positions are also open, including the seat currently held by Joyce Priddy in ward one and Michael Goentzel in ward two.
