Platte City might drop its plans to annex an area south of the city, Mayor Steve Wegner reports. The board of aldermen has been unsuccessful in acquiring, by friendly annexation, the area south of its corporate boundary, Wegner said.


As a genealogy project, students in Christina O’Brien’s class at Platte City Middle School have been making their own family trees. Not only have they learned about all the different names of their ancestors, but have also come to appreciate the different nationalities that make up America.


A building at Third Street and Hwy. 92 in Platte City, which housed the KC Barbeque Restaurant and the former Kossen Body shop, is slated for demolition under the Platte City ordinance on dangerous buildings. The Platte City Board of Aldermen ruled last week that the building must be demolished by the deadline of June 1, 1991. The building was gutted by fire in 1988.


The annual Christmas store for the needy was again successful, Carolyn Horseman, director, said this week. The Platte City store served 330 children and 150 families and the store at Riverside served 700 children and 303 families. The total was 1,030 children and 453 Platte County needy families served this year.
