U.S. Congressman Sam Graves and Jason Klindt, director of communications for the congressman, stopped into The Landmark office on Tuesday morning to visit with staff about current events in our nation’s capital. Graves was in Platte City to present medals to two veterans who had waited a total of 91 years to get their medals they had earned for service to their country. Klindt will be a special guest at next Friday’s Landmark Christmas party. Graves will be unable to attend due to prior family commitments but several members of his staff will be attending.
A week after being placed on a paid suspension, Platte City Police Chief Joe McHale has submitted his resignation. Sgt. Richard Sayles will be serving has interim police chief. Sayles, 55, spent 26 years with the Kansas City Police Department before retiring there in 1998 as a captain. He joined the Platte City police force two years ago. Sayles said he has not been provided a timeline on when a permanent chief will be named. City officials have declined the chance to comment on the reasons behind McHale’s recent suspension. In an executive session last week, aldermen unanimously voted to authorize Mayor Dave Brooks to execute a proposed separation agreement with McHale.
West Platte earned its second state football title in five years, defeating Marionville 35-28 in the state championship game for Class 1.
