Don Siegrist, superintendent of the Platte County R-3 School District, will be the featured speaker at the reception for Presiding Commissioner Raph Wittmeyer, who will be retiring at the end of the year. The reception will be held in conjunction with an open house for the new Platte County Administration Building on Friday, Nov. 30 from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m.
Archie and Mildred Adkinson celebrated 50 years of marriage with an open house for family and friends. The event was held Nov. 25 from 1-5 p.m. at the American Legion Hall in Parkville, Mo.
Since Iben Browning, a New Mexico climatologist, has predicted a major earthquake in Missouri on Dec. 3, sales of earthquake insurance have boomed. “In 10 years time I only wrote two or three, but since the publicity I average two or three a day now,” reports Olin Miller, Platte City insurance agent.
In the basketball season opener, the Platte County Pirates fell to St. Pius 50-42 Tuesday night at St. Pius. The Pirates could not overcome a very rocky start, when they were outscored by Pius 23-5 in the first eight minutes of the game.
Platte City will officially launch the Christmas season this Saturday with a variety of events on Main Street. The Main Street Theater will provide strolling carolers in costumes of the 1800s.
