If a cost of living adjustment is given to a county officeholder, first district commissioner Tom Pryor wants to make sure the COLA is no longer a hidden budgetary item. “I want to pass a resolution that says no COLAs will be given to officeholders unless there is authorization given by the county commission in county court in open session,” Pryor said this week.
The Platte City Police Department is investigating a series of counterfeit checks being passed at a local business located in the 1100 block of Branch Street in Platte City. According to Detective Beth Willoughby, over $1,000 in counterfeit checks have been passed in Platte City as well as in various locations in Platte County.
Though there were no eye-opening revelations, several recommendations for better following of procedures and better financial management have come from a state audit of the City of Dearborn. Alderman Bill Edwards led the petition drive to force the state audit after being frustrated by what he viewed as an excessive number of work hours being paid to the city’s street and water department employees.
Parkville City Administrator Joe Turner says current projections by city staff indicate that the general fund revenues from sales taxes may fall short of budget projections by about $14,500. Projections also show the budgeted amounts for the transportation sales tax may fall short by $6,371.
