My dogs do not understand daylight saving time. They eat at 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. They don’t eat at 6 a.m. and 4 p.m., but now they do because of the United States Government. Can we get a pet friendly politician that will protect the mental health of my dogs and end this lunacy?
Honestly, if there was a year that we didn’t need an extra hour, this one was it. There is no argument for this unless you are Patrick Mahomes.
Sometimes during elections and the avalanche of demographic data that is thrown out into the world, it dawns on me just how average I am. Anyone else, or just me that feels this way? I’m a 54-year-old white guy, married 30+ years, with a few medical issues, a couple of vices and two children and two dogs. That’s almost sad in terms of average Midwestern dude.
But, as they say at the good universities, C’s get degrees, so I’ll sit over here and be content with average.
Hopefully by the time you read this we have selected our leader for the next four years. I’m willing to bet that whomever it is, they don’t defeat COVID and that people are less than happy with them in four more years. That’s a relatively average opinion though so don’t get bent out of shape.
When COVID is over, I want to go on vacation with the person that sold advertising to Barbara Bollier and Roger Marshall, cause that lady or dude is swimming in cash. I live in Missouri and all that advertising made me want to move to Kansas and cast a vote. Not really. I am barely willing to stop my car in Kansas, let alone vote there or mingle with them. You think some Johnson Countians were clamoring to move to Missouri to vote for Claire McCaskill in 2018? No, me neither.
Platte County’s convenience world is about to make a seismic move. The new Trex Mart at the Tracy exit has convenience store connoisseurs ready to roll. That place is looking sweet. A new convenience store to go with a new exit ramp is like heaven on earth in the Midwest. Especially for average people like me. Slated to open sometime soon according to their website, it will have a Country Café and a Dunkin in addition to the standard truck stop amenities and more important things like beer and fossil fuels.
I’m old enough to remember when Tracy was just a cul-de-sac street and a speed trap.
Trex Mart is an awesome local story of entrepreneurial success of founder, Lowell Hartell, and this store looks to be another successful endeavor for a company that is local to the core with 15 or so different businesses under its umbrella and over 200 employees throughout the region.
For history buffs, the café is planned to sport historical photos from the area. I’ve seen these wallpaper montages at the Trex Marts in Lathrop and Fillmore and they’re a neat collection of old photos from the area. I look forward to seeing Tracy’s history, with a side of omelet soon.
