Thirty Years Ago–September 14, 1990

The interim minister for the First Christian Church of Platte City is the Rev. Harold Van Cleave, a retired minister who takes part in the church’s “intentional interim” program. The interim minister will give the congregation time to adjust before a permanent minister is named.


Platte County’s Lady Pirates volleyball team won the KCI Conference Tournament at Weston on Saturday, defeating Lathrop in the championship match. The win earned some revenge for the Lady Pirates-Lathrop had beaten them in last year’s tourney title match. In the early rounds of the event the Pirates defeated West Platte and Plattsburg.


Mr. and Mrs. Rodney Wright announced the birth of a baby boy born Sept. 4th. The proud grandparents are Robert and Mary Lou Wright and great-grandmother Hazel Wright. He was named Robert Samuel.


Dearborn will hold its annual Harvest Moon Heritage Festival this year on Sept. 29. Some of the events being planned include a parade, Little Miss and Mr. Contest, and apple pie and pickle contest.


Platte County Auditor Fred Pouche released results of a countywide inventory of fixed assets conducted by his office during the past eight weeks. According to Pouche, valuation of county-owned property rose from $2,758,257 to $7,496,120, or an increase of $4.7 million.
