EDITOR:
I found your tirade in the Aug. 12 Between the Lines column rather interesting. You commented about how Cruise Holidays got such a large sum of money from the CARES funds and how the owners’ daughter’s business also received a substantial sum, intimating some nefarious motivation on behalf of the Platte County Commissioners. However, you do not address why Mr. Comfort nor his daughter received substantial relief. Is there some rule or law about having a business in the same county as your father that I am not aware of? I would think we would welcome her employment of Platte County residents and the tax revenues she pays.
As far as not giving CARES funds to the health department, I support this decision. The health department is responsible for shutting down the county, which has accounted for numerous lost businesses, an increase in cases of child abuse, domestic violence and drug and alcohol abuse. And this because of a mortality rate of right around .01% in all of Platte County.
This does not even take into account the damage done to the education of our youth, which is the group that is the least vulnerable to the virus.
Also, I am not sure what you mean by “go full Dagmar Wood?” I have always found her to be a personable hard-working individual of integrity who always has her constituents’ best interests in mind.
