Kissing your sister, 92 corridor and such

Kissing your sister

Is it possible that Friday night football is what pulls us out of this pandemic funk? Or does it plunge us deeper into the COVID statistical tumbler? I am hoping it’s the solution and not part of the problem. I’m cheering for all teams this year. I could live through a season of tie games if it means we are getting better.

Coaches say a tie is like kissing your sister. I doubt that is politically correct anymore. First of all, it assumes gender and it gets even more complicated from that point forward. Let us just agree that ties are normally a bad outcome for a football game and move on from here.

Sure hate to be a broken record, but Platte County real estate continues to be off the charts insane. There are currently 17 pending sales (under contract) of small acreage properties (under 20 acres) in Platte County. Only two of those are under $250,000 and eight of them are over $500,000 with two of them over a $1.2 million. In the prior year there were only five total sales above $1.2 million in Platte County per the local MLS service. There have already been seven this year and when you add in two more sales pending, you are going to have nine sales over $1.2 million with four months left in the year.

If you are a buyer, make sure to pull your couch cushions, because you’re going to need every dime. If you’re a seller, call a realtor ASAP. The problem with being a seller is that you’re probably going to be a buyer as soon as you’re done being a seller, unless you’re planning to go homeless; which is not recommended.

Area realtors are reporting that the Hwy. 92 corridor stretching from Platte City to Kearney has entered an unprecedented area of demand as buyers seek to get a little less population density in their living environment. If this continues, the shift in population is going to be interesting. The lack of inventory is the only limiting condition that currently exists. If the demand stays high, we are likely to see an acceleration of population in the Platte County, Smithville and Kearney school districts that would likely exceed the already steady growth year over year of the last few decades.

Ok, so all that begs the question. If you are looking to be a top dog in Platte County, what should you be considering? Well, the well-known castle house at Weatherby Lake can be bought for less than $5 million, so that is a thought. Or 84 acres out on Grass Pad Road can be yours for $2.8 million. It is advertised as having “beautiful views” and I would suspect room for “entertaining” if that is your thing. It also has an airplane landing strip, hangar, and elevator, if those things are on your must have list.

Anyway, there is a little something for everyone that has a few million to drop on some living arrangements, so get busy and start writing some checks.

Do people still “entertain”? That sounds like something my parents participated in the 70’s. I think people just “come over” now, but maybe I’m out of touch.
