15 Years Ago–August 25, 2005

A felony that began in Lincoln, Neb. last Wednesday ended hours later in southern Andrew County, Missouri, north of St. Joseph. According to a press release issued by the Platte City Police Department, at approximately 5:30 p.m. on Aug. 17, a 20-year-old white female was abducted from a restaurant in Lincoln by a 20-year-old male companion. The male drove the female through Nebraska into Missouri to Platte City. The release indicates that the female was allowed to exit the vehicle at a motel in Platte City, where she was able to contact authorities and request help. Platte City police officers observed the male driving a Jeep Cherokee, across from the motel. A car chase occurred after the vehicle fled from Platte City officers. The chase ended when the suspect crashed and was apprehended by the Missouri State Highway Patrol. He was treated for minor injuries at Heartland Hospital, and then booked into the Platte County Detention Facility.


The annual tax sale of delinquent properties in Platte County was held Monday in the county administration building. The collector’s office offered 48 properties for sale. Of those parcels of land, 24 were sold, allowing the county to collect $63,688.50 in back taxes. County Collector Donna Nash stated that the tax sale also brought in a tax surplus of $111,579.55 which will go to the county treasurer’s office.
