After months of deliberation, the Missouri Public Service Commission delivered the first blow to opponents of a proposed second coal-fired power plant in Iatan. A 5-0 vote by the Missouri Public Service Commission was handed down on Thursday in favor of Kansas City Power & Light’s plan for the additional plant, as well as higher rates to help fund it. The approval means that rates could increase 15 to 20 percent and would cost a household with an average $100 electric bill an extra $15 to $20 per month.
