Due to a statute of limitations, First District Platte County Commissioner Michael Short will not have to repay approximately $20,000 to the county that he received from an unconstitutional mid-term pay raise between Jan. 1, 1999 and Dec. 31, 2000. Clay County Circuit Court Judge Rex Gabbert, assigned by the Supreme Court to hear the case, ruled the three-year statute of limitations to recover the money has expired and he dismissed the case.
A 28-year-old Parkville man is currently being held at the Platte County Detention Center on a $100,000 cash-only bond, after allegedly stabbing his 40-year-old roommate on Thursday evening on NW Crooked Road at Parkville. Gary L. Stewart is charged with two counts for the incident, including assault in the first degree, which is a Class A felony punishable by 10-30 years imprisonment or a life sentence; and a felony count of armed criminal action. The victim was transported to North Kansas City Hospital in critical condition. It is believed he will survive his injuries.
One month after denying Mayor Dave Brooks’ recommendation to appoint Jerry Keuhn to a seat on the city’s parks board, the Platte City Board of Aldermen voted in favor of placing Keuhn on the board by a vote of 5-1 Tuesday evening. Keuhn’s term with the parks board will end in April of 2007.
