Mr. and Mrs. Bill Wright were hosts at a picnic last Sunday for all the people living on Hwy. HH. About 50 people attended the picnic and enjoyed the food and visiting with their neighbors. The birthdays of Jenny Wright, Kelly Towbridge and John Morellli were celebrated.
Pilot Club of Platte City is collecting any type of old eye glasses or frames for the Missouri Eye Bank. Anyone who would like to donate old glasses may bring them to The Landmark office.
The Platte County Court has decided to ask for 14 new jobs under a federal grant. They expect to receive about $107,000 under a grant though the Manpower Administration of the U.S. Department of Labor. At its meeting last Thursday, the court agreed to make one of the positions a road superintendent at a salary of $833 a month.
Platte City Scout Troop 248 is sponsoring the annual American Cancer Society Bike-A-Thon on August 9. The ride will start at 8:00a.m. in Platte City at the baseball parking lot on Fourth Street. Anyone is invited to participate in this “ride against cancer.” Awards and prizes will be given to the best individual performances in many categories.
An investment of nearly $1 million has recently been made by the Missouri Public Service Company to provide a new substation and transmission line to serve Weston, Farley, Tracy and part of Platte City.
