A police standoff operation in Platte City Tuesday night ended with police finding a 48-year-old man dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound inside a residence on Gates Drive East.

The Platte County Sheriff’s Department and the Platte City Police Department responded to a report of an armed barricaded person at about 7:23 Tuesday evening. The subject had been involved in a domestic assault Tuesday afternoon, authorities say. The sheriff department’s SWAT team and a crisis negotiation team were on the scene for several hours, attempting to negotiate with the man. Shortly after 1 a.m. Wednesday, the sheriff’s department sent a news release announcing the operation had ended. The man’s name was not immediately released, pending notification of relatives.

A video from the scene, taken about 10:30 p.m. Tuesday, can be found on Facebook at Platte County Landmark.
