Parkville police are investigating a shooting that took place at a residence early Sunday morning.

The incident took place inside an apartment at a structure located in the 300 block of East Street at about 3:30 a.m. Sunday, police said.

A disturbance between two males preceded the shooting, according to Kevin Chrisman, chief of the Parkville Police Department.

“One pulled a handgun, they struggled a little bit and at least one shot was fired, maybe two,” Chrisman said.

The victim was taken to North Kansas City Hospital, where he remained as of Tuesday. Chrisman said the victim is in stable condition.

The suspect fled the scene southbound in an unknown vehicle, Chrisman said. Police do not currently know the whereabouts of the suspect, but believe he is still in the Northland.

The two men “appear to be acquaintances,” Chrisman said. The apartment where the shooting took place belongs to the victim, who is in his early 30s, according to the police chief.

Police are speaking with at least one potential witness and hope to have further developments in the case later this week, Chrisman explained.
