Contractors of the new Platte City Middle School hit a $95,000 snag in the project a few weeks ago, when they noticed the first layer of asphalt started to show signs of deterioration. “The problem was noticed in the front of the school,” said Project Manager Craig Shonk of Manning Construction. “With the truck traffic driving over it, the asphalt started to heave and bump up a little bit.” Unfortunately for R-3, the problem lies within Platte City’s soil. The district will now have to allocate an additional $95,000 in funds to pay for the relaying of the asphalt.
The 2006 numbers are in for the assessed property value for the City of Platte City. Figures gained from Platte County show that Platte City’s total real estate assessment value for fiscal year 2006 is $49,546,581. Of that, $1,570,700 is due to new construction. The 3.86% increase is one of the smallest real estate assessment increases the city has experienced in the past decade.
Construction is underway and proceeding at a rapid pace on a new fast food restaurant in Platte City. Sonic, which is being constructed to the west of Wendy’s in the Platte Valley Plaza, is “building quickly and will be opening soon,” according to co-developer John Rose. Along with Sonic is the anticipated opening of a strip mall, which will tentatively feature a sports bar as one of its tenants, in the same area of the Plaza.
