MCPL says it will initiate contact tracing
Potential exposure to COVID-19 has forced the temporary closing of one of the branches in the Mid-Continent Public Library (MCPL) system.
The library system’s Boardwalk Branch, located at 8656 N. Ambassador Drive, Kansas City in Platte County, closed at noon on Tuesday, June 23, after a customer indicated testing positive for COVID-19. That same customer had visited the branch on Monday as well, library officials said in a web site posting.
If able to determine, MCPL will notify any customers who were potentially exposed to the virus, library officials said.
In addition, “library staff who were potentially exposed will be tested for the virus and closely monitored before returning to work,” MCPL reported on its web site.
The branch will remain closed until further notice, during which time the library will undergo cleaning and disinfecting. MCPL said it is working closely with the Kansas City Health Department to determine all necessary and additional steps, and the reopening of the branch will be based on health department recommendations, library officials said.
“The health and safety of our customers and staff remain our top priority, and we are taking swift action to ensure we mitigate risk as much as we possibly can,” said Steven Potter, MCPL director and CEO.
