Missouri Governor Matt Blunt visited Chinn Elementary School in the Park Hill School District last Thursday morning to sign HB33 designating the North American Bullfrog as the state’s official amphibian. HB33 was filed on Dec. 1, 2004 by State Representative Susan Phillips (R-32) in response to a request from the fourth graders at Chinn Elementary. The students, along with their teacher, Amy Boynton, have participated in every step as the piece of legislation moved from filing, through committees, and to the final passage by both the Missouri House and Senate.
Platte City residents will again be asked to vote on a 3/8 cent transportation sales tax question in November. The decision to place the matter on the ballot was made at a board of aldermen meeting Tuesday evening. The original question failed in the April election by a count of 65% against and 35% in favor. Aldermen have been in discussions since then, deciding on the ballot and the terminology that should be used.
The donation of some land by residents near the N. Farley Bridge has simplified the county’s acquisition of right-of-way property. Platte County Commissioner’s approved the land donation of less than two acres by Jimmy C. Renz, Vanetta Ruth Renz, Gene Palmer, Margaret Palmer, Carole Coots and John Coots for improvements to the N. Farley Bridge. The N. Farley Bridge will be widened from 13 ft. to 24 ft.
