A prisoner in the Platte County jail, Victor Ray Abbott, 41, of Warrensburg was captured about three hours after he escaped from his cell about 2:15 p.m. on Tuesday. Officers said Abbott climbed through the ceiling to the first floor near the east door of the courthouse. With the help of a bloodhound from Lansing Correctional Institution, Abbott was tracked and captured about 5:30 in a rural area about five miles east of Platte City.
The Rev. Ronald W. Goodman, Jr. has been appointed pastor of the Platte City First United Methodist Church. He will move into the parsonage on June 7 and begin his pastorate here on June 10 with worship services at 8:45 a.m. and 10:45 a.m.
A 25 cent levy increase in the North Platte R-1 School District failed to receive the necessary two-thirds approval in Tuesday’s voting with the unofficial returns at 448 yes and 345 no. R-1 district voters did approve 501 to 294 a transfer of up to $23,000 in Proposition C funds to the operating fund for career ladder incentives. Due to the defeat of the levy, one class each in the second and third grades will be cut.
Members of the Missouri Economic Development Council toured Platte County Thursday and stopped in Platte City, where they were briefed on industrial sites available, and other advantages including the R-3 school system, the Vo-Tech, interstate system, work ethic and quality of life.
