An earlier deal for an upscale grocery store to be built in Platte City has fallen through, the Platte Valley Plaza co-developer John Rose. According to Rose, while everyone involved realizes the local need, the issue of money seems to be the determining deal-breaker. An earlier deal was linked between Paul Bresette, owner of the Platte Woods Sun Fresh, and at least one member of the Glick family, owners of Leo’s Country Mart of Platte City, according to Rose. “The agreement between the two parties was for them to transfer their franchise right to Paul Bresette,” said Rose. Now that agreement has been put on hold because the Associated Wholesale Grocers and the developers cannot agree on a price for the land.
The Platte County Planning and Zoning Department awarded $225,000 in 2005 Stormwater Grants to various entities this past week. According to Director Aaron Schmidt, the planning and zoning office received requests adding up to $353,000 from cities and road districts across the county. However, since the grants are funded through the parks and rec sales tax, the county was only able to award $225,000 on grants.
A Platte City couple is noting their 65th wedding anniversary this week. Charles David Turner and Ollie Bernice Wallingford were married on June 2, 1940 in Troy, Ks. They have three children, seven grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandson.
