You have probably seen a moving van of Beltmann-Shelby American is parked near the doors of the new Plate County Administration Building as moving crews and county workers move items into the new offices. The new building houses administrative offices and the old courthouse will become a justice center for the jail, sheriff, prosecutor, circuit clerk and courts. The move was completed over the Memorial Day weekend.

A state Board of Arbitration Tuesday decided in favor of the Platte County R-3 School District in a boundary dispute with the Park Hill R-5 School District. Meeting at the Odessa School District offices in Odessa, the three-man board unanimously ruled that the southern part of the R-3 district will remain a part of the R-3 district. Members of the board were Dr. Chester Boren, Centralia Mo., retired superintendent at Centralia, who served as chairman; Dr. Orlo Shoyer of Chillicothe, currently superintendent at Chillicothe School District; and Frank Hoffman, Trenton, a former member of the school board at Trenton.

The sudden decision of State Sen. Truman Wilson, Democrat, St. Joseph, to retire has resulted in a chain reaction in Platte County political circles. Wilson’s announcement caused Rep. John Birch to drop his bid for re-election to the House to run for the Senate, leaving Birch’s post vacant. This prompted Gary Witt of Platte City and Lillie Trimble of Parkville to file for Birch’s post.
