The local Platte Purchase Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution is proud to present one of their 2005 Good Citizenship Awards to Stephanie Sallee of Dearborn. This award is presented annually to members of the senior class of accredited high schools. The students selected have proven themselves, by their personal acts and attitudes, to be the most outstanding citizens in their class.
A Missouri State Highway Patrol criminal investigator who resides in Platte City has been named a Law Enforcement Officer of the Year by the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC). Cpl. Jeffrey Owen works at the crime lab in southern Platte County. He has been a forensics criminal investigator for the patrol for two years. He previously was a patrolman for 11 years. The award was presented Wednesday morning on Capitol Hill in Washington, D.C.
Siegrist Elementary School in the Platte County R-3 School District held a special ribbon cutting ceremony on Monday morning, officially opening the Kids Curiosity Garden. The garden was built through a fundraiser involving the 2003-2004 first, second and third graders which raised nearly $12,000 in funds. The project also received donations through various entities and a Platte County Parks and Rec grant in the amount of $6,000. The project, which was headed by Siegrist third grade teacher Lori Rush, was completed one and half years after it broke ground.
