Health board meeting postponed

‘Would be challenging to maintain compliance with social distancing’

No meeting tonight.

The president of the Platte County Health Department Board of Trustees has announced that the board meeting originally scheduled for tonight, May 19, at 7 p.m. at the Platte County Resource Center has been postponed.

In a letter distributed Tuesday afternoon, Kent Jackson, president of the board of trustees, says:

“We have learned through multiple public formats that groups of people have been encouraged to attend the meeting. In light of the public health orders in place to protect the health and safety of the public due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we cannot encourage behavior that is susceptible to mass gatherings, which presents a threat to the health of the public and residents of Platte County.”

Jackson’s letter goes on to state:

“We appreciate the desire of the public to be in attendance at the open meeting this evening, but we cannot encourage participation in an event where it will be challenging to maintain compliance with current orders for social distancing.”

The meeting will be rescheduled soon, Jackson indicated, and will eventually be held using a “virtual format.”

“We will reschedule this regular monthly board of trustees meeting within the week utilizing a virtual format. All members of the public who were to be afforded the opportunity to present their comments at the meeting this evening will be given the same opportunity in the virtual meeting as soon as possible. Those individuals will be notified via email of the reschedule date,” Jackson said.

Jackson encouraged members of the public to visit plattecountyhealthdept.com for the date, time, and virtual method of the upcoming meeting.
