45 Years Ago May 16, 1975

Mike Ferrin, Platte City, is a runner-up in the Jack and Jill Magazine Cover Contest in the June-July issue. He is in the 4th grade at The Platte City Middle Annex and his art teacher is Mrs. Janet Leachman. Mike’s drawing is of a surprised fox when he sees a fish jump out of the edge of a pond.


Mr. and Mrs. Hal Swaney of Platte City announce the birth of their daughter, Mary Ann, on May 13, 1975 at Missouri Methodist Medical Center, St. Joseph. Mr. and Mrs. Fred Potter are the maternal grandparents and Mr. and Mrs. Thomas C. Swaney are the paternal grandparents, all of Platte City.


Richard Wayne Calvert of Platte City has been awarded the designation of Knight of the York Cross of Honor. This honorary degree, highest in the York Rite of Freemasonry, is conferred only on those who have held the highest office in each of the four bodies of the rite. Dr. Calvert served as Master of Platte City Lodge of Masons in 1968; High Priest of Weston Chapter, Royal Arch Masons in 1972; Master of Liberty Council, Royal and Select Masters in 1972; Commander of Weston Commandery, Knight Templar, in 1974. He was elected to membership in Missouri Priory and his election confirmed by Convent General of the Order on May 9.
