An overflowing crowd (including a number of former members) attended services at Barry Church Sunday in celebration of the 135th year anniversary of its founding. Roland Williams Sr. was given the prize for the member of longest period of time. Mrs. Gloria Thompson, of Chicago, was given the prize for a member coming the farthest distance.


Mr. and Mrs. Harry Heald were returning to their home in Nebraska, following a trip through the Ozarks, and stopped overnight Saturday at the Airport Motel Inn. Early Sunday morning their car was stolen. David Jacks, a Platte City policeman, responded to their call. He traced the car and found it in Kansas City, Kansas. He then returned it to the owners.


Marvin’s Sports of Platte City is sponsoring a canoe race on Sunday, May 4th at the Platte River. The race will run from the Platte City 92 Highway bridge to Humphrey’s Access, some 5 to 7 miles downstream. Trophies will be given for the four fastest times.


Turner’s Meat Market, operated by Floyd Turner, will open soon in the Platte Hotel in Platte City. Mr. Turner is well known in the area, having formerly operated the Gladstone Meats at Gladstone and Riverside, and later the Weston Quality Meats which he will continue to operate. Besides fresh meat, he will have staple grocery items and some delicatessen items available at Turner’s Meat Market.
