Platte City Mayor Steve Wegner signed a proclamation for National Teacher Day with the help of Dianne Nespory and Cheryl Jaros, both second grade teachers and members of the Platte County Education Association. The PCEA will observe National Teacher Day on Tuesday, May 8. Local activities include a PCEA meeting at Barry Middle School on Monday, May 7 and appreciation gifts to members.


The Platte County Commission Thursday opened bids for moving from the present courthouse to the new County Administration Building. Bids were received from six companies and ranged from $7,630 to $23,400 with various charges for the labor of rearranging the furniture at the new site. David Brenner, eastern district commissioner, said the county has been planning on a May 25 move.


Iatan Generating Station is inviting its neighbors to a party on Saturday, May 5 to celebrate its 10th anniversary. Iatan, which is named after an Indian chief, is located on the Missouri River north of Weston. Plant Manager Jerry Larson says, “Iatan has consistently ranked as a leader among the nation’s power plants for high performance at low cost.”


Cole Small, a second grader at Platte City Elementary School, read 225 books and raised $1,400 for the battle against Multiple Sclerosis. Cole placed fourth in the western region of Missouri in the annual MS drive. He is the son of Steve and Coleen Small of Farley. He was awarded a TV set and an autograph party with Bret Saberhagen.
