Platte County Sheriff’s Deputy James Reece was involved in a single car accident at 10:03p.m. on Thursday, April 21. The accident occurred about a half mile east of B Hwy, on Hwy. 92 following the initiation of a pursuit. According to the sheriff’s department, Reece, 44, initiated a pursuit of a vehicle driving in excess of 90 miles per hour eastbound on Hwy 92. Reece’s vehicle ran off the right side of the roadway. During an attempt to overcorrect the vehicle, the vehicle returned to the road and skidded off the left side of the highway. Reece’s vehicle then struck several trees and overturned twice before coming to rest on its wheels. He was transported to North Kansas City Hospital with moderate injuries and was released the following day.
North Platte R-1 High School students participated in a sometimes harrowing simulated drunk driving course with Sgt. Dave Thornburg presented by the Platte County Sheriff’s Department on Thursday afternoon as a part of the school’s Drinking Awareness Day.
U.S. Congressman Sam Graves outlined his commitment to retaining quality teachers in a visit to the Northland Career Center in Platte City on Friday, as a part of his April Education Tour. As a part of his stop in Platte City, Graves met with students, teachers and alumni of the facility. Graves will be spending the month traveling to many schools across the Sixth Congressional District.
