A Nebraska man was captured 278 miles from home following a high-speed chase through Platte County.
Joshua Sain, 28, of Grand Island, has been charged with resisting a lawful stop and faces additional felony charges out of Lancaster County.
At about 9:30 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 18, police spotted a gold Chevy Impala traveling westbound on 64th Street in southern Platte County with both taillights out. When the officer initiated a traffic stop, the motorist came to a complete stop on the side of the road before quickly driving away at a high rate of speed.
According to court documents, Joshua Sain traveled southbound on Prairie View Road going 80 mph in a 45 mph zone. Sain allegedly swerved into oncoming traffic “attempting to run other vehicles off the roadway,” authorities say.
When Sain reached the four-way stop at 56th Street, he proceeded to drive through it without stopping and veered onto the interstate. While driving above the speed limit on Interstate 635, Sain would hit the brakes in a reckless attempt to cause an accident, court documents allege.
Sain took the Parkville exit off of I-635 and drove westbound on Hwy. 9. The vehicle passed through downtown Parkville and turned onto 63rd Street near Sonic. While traveling at about 50 mph, Sain drove across a parking lot and onto Hwy. 45, where he drove westbound in the eastbound lane of traffic at speeds of about 80 mph, almost causing multiple head-on collisions, authorities say.
He lost control of his vehicle, after hitting a curb in a roundabout. His vehicle left the roadway on the south side and hit a light pole.
Sain attempted to run from the scene, but slipped and “fell face down into the grass,” states court documents.
Sain was taken into custody along with a female passenger, who was sitting shotgun inside the wrecked vehicle.
Police recovered a BB gun from the floorboard and several cellular phones. Sain remains in custody in lieu of a $25,000 cash-only bond. He is scheduled to appear in court later this month.
Sain has two active felony warrants issued from Lancaster County for receiving stolen property, court documents say.
