Wallace resigns from Platte City board, Jim Everett nominated to take his place
The City of Platte City announced Friday the nomination of Jim Everett as ward one aldermen to fill the seat vacated with the resignation of Alderman Brad Wallace earlier this week.
Mayor Frank Offutt’s nomination of Everett will be considered by the Platte City Board of Aldermen at its Oct. 22 meeting. If approved, Everett will serve until the next municipal election in April 2020.
“Filling board vacancies are always bittersweet events,” Offut stated. “The board will consider the nomination of a very accomplished resident in Jim to represent Ward 1; unfortunately that means the community and the board is losing Brad whose been a very strong, principled presence on the board, excelling in his duties for the city and his ward since taking office in April 2018.”
“Brad will very much be missed,” the mayor said, “However, with only so many hours in a day, he had to prioritize his family and his increasingly responsible demanding job requirements. Brad notified me that he did not feel able to devote his full attention to serve ward I as a result of recent, unexpected increase in his job responsibilities and associated time commitments. I know Brad will continue to be an active member of the community who will hopefully be available to serve again in the future.”
“Nominating Jim Everett was a very obvious selection for board consideration, filling the vacancy created,” the mayor continued.
Everett is a longtime resident of Platte City and ward 1. Ward one includes the portion of the city located north of Highway 92.
Everett has extensive experience and knowledge of local government. He recently retired after many years of service on the Platte County Election Board and is currently serving the community as chairman of the Platte City Planning and Zoning Commission.
“We are losing a lot with Brad’s resignation, but we are gaining an equal amount with Jim’s nomination,” the mayor concluded.
