There’s no better way to celebrate the change of cool crisp air and magnificent foliage this fall than gathering at Weston Bend State Park for the annual Prowl at the Park.
The family-friendly event, organized by the Missouri State Parks, is held from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 19 at the Bee Creek Shelter, just south of the park’s main entrance along State Route 45 in Weston.
The spooky fall event features free hot dogs, local storytellers and carnival-style games, like pumpkin bowling and bobbing for apples.
At the Bee Creek Shelter, attendees can uncover all the facts about the spine-chilling, creepy critters tucked inside the tobacco barn and take a short ranger-led hike in the woods with flashlights.
Along the paved bicycle trail, hikers may encounter a few noises that go bump in the night. The guided hike, through a small portion of the 1,133-acre park, will take place every 30 minutes.
After dusk, gather around a campfire and listen as local storytellers share suspenseful and not-so-eerie tales. Event-goers can enjoy complimentary hot dogs and drinks at the Bee Creek Shelter.
Arrive at the fall-themed event in a family-friendly costume for a chance to win a prize. The costume contest kicks off at 6 p.m.
The event is sponsored by Price Chopper in Platte City, the University of Missouri, 4-H, the Platte County Sheriff’s Office, Remington Nature Center and Scout Me In.
